Dementia Friendly Community
A Seminar on Dementia Friendly Community Organized by Unity in the Community
Unity in the Community successfully hosted an educational seminar on Dementia Friendly Community, aiming to raise awareness and enhance understanding of dementia within the community.
The keynote presentation was delivered by Jesica Pochodaj, Public Education Coordinator, Alzheimer Society of Peel, who offered an exhaustive and insightful overview—focusing particularly on Alzheimer’s dementia.
Jesica highlighted several important points:
* There is no medicine that can cure dementia.
* Dementia is not a disease; it is a set of symptoms that affect memory, thinking, and daily functioning.
* Nearly 60 underlying diseases can lead to dementia.
* The most common types include:
* Vascular Dementia
* Lewy Body Dementia
* Frontotemporal Dementia
The seminar emphasized the importance of creating supportive, inclusive environments for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers. Unity in the Community reaffirmed its commitment to promoting awareness and building compassionate, informed neighbourhoods.
