UIC Seniors Milton Chapter Successfully Hosts Townhall on “Seniors Safety First: Protecting Our Communities Together”
Milton, Ontario — The UIC Seniors Milton Chapter organized an impactful Townhall Meeting titled “Seniors Safety First: Protecting Our Communities Together” at the Sherwood Community Centre, drawing a large number of local residents concerned about senior safety and community wellbeing.
The event was honoured by the presence of Mayor of Milton, Gordon Krantz, who has served the Town of Milton for over 35 years. In his address, Mayor Krantz emphasized the importance of community awareness, unity, and proactive measures to safeguard seniors from growing threats.
A senior officer from the Halton Regional Police Service Ms. Jovana Minic delivered an exhaustive and highly informative presentation focusing on the various scams targeting seniors, including phone, online, and financial fraud. The officer outlined practical steps and safety strategies to help seniors protect themselves and respond effectively to suspicious situations.
Barrister Aftab Alam further addressed the legal aspects of senior safety, highlighting rights, reporting mechanisms, and the legal recourse available to victims of fraud or intimidation.
UIC Seniors Milton Chapter extends its gratitude to all attendees, speakers, and volunteers whose collective efforts made this Townhall a meaningful step toward a safer community for seniors.
