Unity in the Community Meets with Mayor Milton to Advance Local Poverty Relief and Senior Support Initiatives
Milton- January 12,2026 — Unity in the Community held a productive meeting with Mayor Milton Mr. Gordon Krantz to discuss key initiatives aimed at improving quality of life for residents, with a particular focus on poverty reduction and senior engagement.
Unity in the Community presented a bouquet to pay tribute to him for his 60 years of community services.
During the meeting UIC proposed the establishment of a citywide food bank, an initiative intended to support families facing financial hardship and help alleviate poverty across the city. The organization emphasized the growing need for reliable food security resources and expressed readiness to collaborate with municipal partners to bring the project to life.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of providing dedicated meeting spaces for seniors within community centres. Unity in the Community requested access to monthly space that would support social programs, health & educational workshops, and community-building activities for older adults.
Mayor Milton expressed strong support for both initiatives, assuring the group of his commitment to working together to identify feasible locations, resources, and partnerships.
“Supporting our residents—especially our most vulnerable—is a priority,” Mayor Milton stated. “We look forward to partnering with Unity in the Community to ensure these important initiatives move forward.”
Unity in the Community will continue coordinating with City staff in the coming weeks to further advance planning and implementation.
